On October 24th, 2010, our little family of 3 grew to 4. Our beautiful daughter Mia McKenzie Raines was born at 8:22 AM. So that makes her 3 years, 2 months, and 10 hours apart from her older sister. Zoey was so excited to have Mia join the family and has been the best big sister ever! Mia weighed 9 LBS 3 OZ and was 20 inches long. She is seriously one of the two cutest babies I have ever seen! Oh and her sister is too haha! My water broke at the ward chilli cook off infront of about 10 of our friends and of course it wasn't just a small trickle, it was a large gush! So off to the hospital we went. Joe dropped me off and then he dropped Zoey off at our cousin's house and then came back to be with me. The nurse was wondering if I was really in labor or not, and had to do three tests to confirm that it was the water that broke and that I didn't just piss my pants. So the third test came back and it was positive so they made me weight until morning to have a c section because I had just eaten that night. Dr. Kristen Craig was the one that delivered Mia that morning.
Mia ended up in the NICU because of her glucose levels. It wasn't any fun to stay in the hospital for nearly 5 days or so with a baby in the NICU on IV and also monitors. Joe and I came to visit as often as we could, and I would make sure to visit her while Joe was at class. Mom Kemp came to town just at the right time to help with Zoey at home. It was so nice to have her there to help us out! I don't think that we could have done it with out her. While in the hospital I made a trip to the Emergancy Room (of course at the convient hour of 12 midnight) because I got an infection called Mastitis. Trust me, it wasn't very fun at all. But then again, I had my strapping husband there by my side as the ER staff started an IV with antibiotics. One thing that I really liked was having Zoey come and visit us and also having her be able to visit Mia through the window.
We are home now, and I'm glad that our hosiptal days are over for now. Its nice to be home and back in the swing of things, and in our own house. Zoey is a huge help she loves to hold the bottle while Mia eats.
