Historic Nauvoo

Is 3 years old too young to start hard labor? While were at Nauvoo we were taught that the women and children were the ones that cleared the 4 acre lot of land in order for them to build their house. The reason this responsibility fell to them is because the men were up mainly working on the temple or working on other homes. As you can see Joe and I are strong believers in Off Spring Slave Labor (kidding...mostly :-D) and put Z to work making rope, bread, and horse shoes.... not too much work for almost 4 year old right?

At the black smith's shop Z learned how to make horse shoes and OX shoes and also the Prairie Diamond Rings. Back when the pioneers lived in Nauvoo most of them could not afford diamond rings. So they made ones out of nails. It also happens to be that the brand of nails that they used was made by a company named "Diamond" so they had their Prairie Diamond Rings. We even got to take some home for keep sakes and also a Nauvoo brick.
