Perpetration
While I was running errands, I got a call from my husband's unit. He was in the middle of transitioning to a new unit because we had recently moved. Joe was at work and they had gotten the phone numbers switched and called called me instead of him. This was our conversation:
Specialist: Greetings, is Lieutenant Raines home?
Me: Hi there! You called my cellular number would you like his?
Specialist: Sure what is it?
Me: What is this call about?
Specialist: Its about the upcoming deployment.
Me: Oh?!?!?! Deployment where to?
Specialist: Afghanistan, Ma'm.
That is how I discovered that my husband would be deploying to Afghanistan. I went home and asked Joe about it and I asked if he knew. He and I both understood that deployment is always a possibility in the military, but it didn't really hit me until after the news came. The commander called and said that we had two weeks to move and start to get read for deployment.
The only thing I knew about deployment was that he would be gone for a long time. I knew I would miss him but I didn't know how much. We had the option to move back west to be by family or the option to stay where we were. I chose to move myself and our children back west to be closer to the family as well as our Army family. Little did I actually understand what was going to happen next in our adventure called, "life".
